Prelude
Prelude
Oil on canvas
7x5 inches
2025

There’s a story behind this repurposed canvas. Suffice to say it used to be an unfinished painting of a silvery Moroccan teapot and a little teacup, begun in the early 2000s. It was never going to come to life, so I sanded it down, gessoe’d it, and on a whim, covered it with Michael Hariding’s new oil paint, Quinacridone Coral. Some of which peeks through. Cue: Georges Moustaki’s song “Le Métheque”. There’s a stanza wherein he sings of his mouth, which had bitten, kissed, and drank its fill without ever being sated.
