Could be seen as a companion piece to “La Tchuisine Chu Nous” [The Kitchen at Our House}, certainly in terms of its use of pink, grey, and green. Could also be a reaction to Dame Tracey Emin’s “Mother” sculpture, which sits outside the Edvard Munch Museum in Oslo. Emin speaks often and always movingly of her own mother, of how she misses her. For a multitude of reasons, I do not know that longing. If I do, then it’s been long-supressed. Perhaps this is my child’s eye view of the so near, yet so distant source of my mother’s protective, nurturing, seat of her indomitable power. Lucky the child who is drawn near that warmth, that place.
While still a watercolor study, this could well become a 30x40 inch oil painting.
Stay tuned!
