I’m lucky to have two impressive stands of Austrian copper-gold roses. They flame up brilliantly in late spring, the colors hinting at their overly sweet scent. And no, I did not know of Georgia O’Keeffe’s painting of a similar rose until after I’d begun this painting. She had some of these roses growing at one of her two New Mexico homes. I can see why.
