A few short years ago, my husband needed an ID-type photo for work. Something about the light, the directness, his eyes -- rarely seen on account of his glasses -- and I knew it would become a painting. Figurative work is not something I do, having been dissuaded just as I was teaching myself to paint (in the mid-1990s). My then-husband was a soft-spoken, devout Muslim. He admonished me (gently but insistently) about it being sinful to paint faces, as only god can create faces. Ugh. So I gave up for the sake of peace. Time will be the judge, but I believe that was wrong of him, and of me to cave to his edict. Anywho, I’m VERY pleased with this first run.
