Technically, it is an early "selfie". It is also one of the last photos taken of me in the house on Montreal's Monkland Ave., where I lived for many years with my then-husband, the poet Irving Layton. The end of our union was harrowing to say the least, as evidenced by the look on my face. This photo, and a heart-breaking one of Irving with appears in Good As Gone: My Life with Irving Layton, remained undeveloped, unseen, and forgotten until 2015 when I sought images from negatives for possible inclusion in the book. "Haunting or Haunted?" could easily be its title.
